Complete thing . to label everything. The humanities are the worst offenders of the propensity with virtually everything being categorized into time and style labels. That is none more true than in "pop" music (you see you have the label there, can't go around it). This could be especially frustrating an internet to categorize something feel can not be categorized; would it be Indie and Alternative music, or perhaps is it mainstream.
Once i think about Indie music I do believe of a band jamming away in the spare room. That is certainly it - a band! Not really a couple of producers searching for the "Next Growing trend." The Beatles were really like that, playing seven hour gigs in Hamburg, Germany. These folks were poor together inexpensive instruments. The Beatles roomed in cheap hotels and a substantial extent blared out your tunes with their Rock n Roll idols plus some original songs. Obviously we understand so what happened to them - they went mainstream. Some would blame Brian Epstein for that, however it is unlike some Beatles themselves didn't want that since they most assuredly did.
Once you consider the sixties you have to think that the complete rock music scene was Indie since it was very counter-culture. Obviously that's the process of the counter-culture; to be sure everyone that's buying belief that these folks were getting the counter-culture instead of Madison Ave. Into a great extent these folks were buying and playing actual intercourse. Maybe that's true Indie music.

Then this first golden era in the producer came along and demolished that which was good. Out were trotted the sound-alike slick corporate bands. To be sure many of them sounded amazing; I prefer this guitar rock band Boston for instance. The Punk era with the mid 1970's demolished the demolishers within a brazen even sometimes bazaar relieve anti-establishment energy. Then those bands left each other and died, few if any went mainstream unlike their close cousins "New-Wave."
Those bands become popular along with a battle then raged between "New-Wave" and also the overly produced, but sort of fun, Disco. Hair Metal and Glam also took part in the other great era in the producer. Finally, and several would say thankfully, that turned into the "Alternative" rock sound ensconced by bands including Nirvana, Jane's Addiction, or Jesus and Mary Chain. They were the modern Indie until that which was good became destroyed through the lure of cash and deficiency of talent. Pseudo "alternative" grunge bands suddenly appeared and took the stunning landscape of seething musicians twisting it in a sonic conformity that inspired such large selling yet forgettable bands including "Stone Temple Pilots."
So now we are - in just one more era from the producer where over-the-top produced bands like "Fun," and singers like Bruno Mars. Rather than mind the "Indie/Alt" bands like "Foster The People" or "5 Seconds of Summer" (did anyone else recognize that "Hey Everybody" was lifted from another Alternative-band gone wrong Duran Duran?) which can be quickly adopting the un-dynamic sound of studio overproduction.
So what is it? Maybe Indie and Alternative music is something that may only are available for a short period of energy much like the element Neptunium. It could only exist as rebellion towards the conformity of overly-produced Madison Ave. commerce. Nothing wrong with Madison Ave., but the burning energy of true, if short lived, Indie Rock 's what I want.
